Joseph Scafetta, Jr. has several decades of experience in all aspects of intellectual property, with particular emphasis on patents. He served as a law clerk for the late Hon. Robert W. Hemphill in the U.S. District Court for South Carolina. Before joining this firm, he was with Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt, P.C.; Cushman, Darby & Cushman; Arent, Fox, Kintner, Plotkin & Kahn, PLLC; and others.

Mr. Scafetta is admitted for the general practice of law in the District of Columbia and has limited admission for the practice of patent, trademark and copyright law in Virginia. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Beta Gamma Sigma National Honor Society, and the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.
PUBLICATIONS
Mr. Scafetta has many publications including “Ten Years After Aro II – Effect of Patent Act Section 271 on the Patent Misuse Doctrine”, Vol. 26, South Carolina Law Review, Feb. 1975, which won the prestigious Robert C. Watson Award from the American Patent Law Association. He also wrote a 110-page chapter on patent Law in a book entitled “Intellectual Property Law Primer” by Kintner & Lahr (Macmillan Co. 1974.) Mr. Scafetta is bilingual in English and Italian. He also reads Spanish and French.
